Another problem with booting and stopping at aswrvrt.sys

I’ve been reading over a few threads on here and it seems this is becoming somewhat of a common issue.

I went to boot my computer up Monday and it gets to the Starting Windows screen and stops, and then continues to reboot and this will continue to loop until I shut it down. I also cannot boot in safe mode, run the windows repair, or even boot from my Windows 7 disc. Hopefully I can get some help with this, it would be greatly appreciated.

My specs:
Intel Core i5-3450 3.1GHz
ASRock H77 Pro4-M
8GB DDR3 RAM
Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 2GB
Corsair CX600 Power Supply
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit

I can’t remember if I did a recent windows or avast update that would have caused this but the last time I was on I just did what I normally do, nothing out of the ordinary, so im confused as to why this happened. Luckily I have access to a family members laptop so I can load whatever I need to a flash drive to hopefully fix the problem.

Download the following programme to a USB :

For 64bit systems
Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64

For 32bit systems
Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

Boot using the windows CD

When you reboot you will see this.
Click repair my computer

Select “Computer” and find your flash drive letter and close the notepad.
In the command window type e:\frst64.exe and press Enter
Note: Replace letter e with the drive letter of your flash drive.
The tool will start to run.
When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.

Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please copy and paste it to your reply.
The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

When I put my Windows disc in and booted from it, it loads up the very first screen which is Install Windows and has you select your language but theirs no mouse cursor so I can’t go any further.

Are you using a USB mouse and keyboard ?

Yes sir.

Could you enter the BIOS >> This is probably done by pressing the escape key (or DEL or F2) when the manufacturers logo appears
This will open the BIOS page

Once in the BIOS you will have to find where your SATA settings are.
You will be looking for something like “SATA mode”.
Your options will likely be IDE, AHCI, and RAID. Simply select IDE mode. If already set on IDE then change to AHCI.
Save (often just F10).
Exit and restart.

Alright I changed it to IDE and when I went to restart it, it just did the same thing. However this time when it came to the Starting Windows screen it almost immediately went BSOD.

Could you now change it back to AHCI

Alright I did.

Still no joy then ?

Lets try a different programme (you can use the same USB)

Download Peazip to the desktop
Run and install the programme
As it installs this page will show, deselect the AVG ticks
Press decline and it will then install cleanly

This is so frustrating. Do you have another source where I can download OTLPE? I’m not sure if it’s the host but it sort of stream downloads and it keeps stopping before the complete file downloads.

That is the only location that is guaranteed clean I am afraid

I fixed it! I managed to borrow a non usb mouse and repair the system using my Windows disc. Thank you so much for the help though. Do you have a PayPal? I’d like to compensate you for your time and ive noticed you have helped out a bunch of people with the same issue for free.

It is not allowed on this forum, as I do work for free here

Was this problem ever found? It seems to have happened to me again.

It appears to be a windows update (defender) that MS said they were going to pull

Interesting. Should I just disable windows update? I can also format my drive if that would resolve the problem too. I fixed it again but I just don’t want this to keep happening.

A reformat would be the quickest answer, as I say I believe MS have now pulled that update so it should not have any affect on your system now

Alright Ill do that tonight. Thanks again for your help.

My pleasure
