Another SMTP option ?

My internet mail provider in avast! On-access Scanner is set to HIGH. Everything works just great, no problems at all. BTW, I use Outlook Express as my e-mail and newsgroup client (still…).

I noticed in avast! settings another SMTP option and I wonder what is it for. All boxes are empty except “PORT” which is set to 25 (see attachment)… Should I set something under “SERVER ADDRESS” and “FROM ADDRESS” ?

Thanks in advance !

BTW, any recommendations regarding new mail client are welcome. I need something that can read e-mail as good as newsgroups inside the same client… also, it would be very helpful if it can “read” my hotmail e-mail account (WEB mail) as Outlook Express does it… I really don’t have problems with my Outlook Express 6, but it’s kinda boring… I really need some change…

Cheers !

This setting is not related to the e-mail protection, it’s for avast! itself.
Sometimes, avast! may need to send e-mail messages - for example, if you define your “alerts” (messages to be sent when a virus is found), or for sending files from the Chest to ALWIL Software, etc. In these cases, this is the SMTP setting that will be used.

OK, thanks Igor for your promt response… everything is clear now, except, in case I want to send files from CHEST to Alwil Soft, what should I put in those empty fields ?

Cheers !

P.S. Any news about next program update and about that transparent issue I posted in here: CLICK ME AND FIND S.Z.Craftec’s POST ?

Thanks in advance !

Will we have the option for authentication in next version?
I mean, now, I cannot send a file or receive an alert unless I’m connected to the default smtp server and my email has the same smtp server… :-\

Your smtp server address (e.g., smtp.yahoo.com)
Your email (the alert or file sender) (e.g., user@yahoo.com)

Hope this help!

Will we have the option for authentication in next version?

This is still under development.

Vlk

Thanks Vlk

So i can’t use this, because my both email accounts require authentication in order to send mail.

well your probobly gona have to get a side email, that does not require autorisation, so you can use it

Unfortunatelly, was not this time… We don’t have SMTP authentication in 4.1357 yet :-\

Odd – I thought the iNews said it had been added this time. Did I mis-read that, or was it a (very rare) error in the iNews?

You’re right Mike, the avast! iNews February 27, 2004 says:
Here is the list of most important changes and improvements:

 • sending of emails from avast by SMTP now supports authorization

Where is it?
