Another Win32:Malware-gen

Hello, I have been having some trouble dealing with a Win32:Malware-gen. I noticed it yesterday when my copy of Microsoft Security Essentials stopped working; it also appears to have disabled Windows Firewall. Anyway, I installed a Trial of Avast Internet Security and it has been popping up saying that it blocked the malware, and also a Trojan I didn’t know about, (Win32:DNSChanger-VJ [Trj]) from interfering with my processes.

Avast is unable to remove it, as is the trial of Malwarebytes I installed. Could someone give me advise on how to remove these viruses. Any help is appreciated!

I’m having the exact same problem! I’ve been trying to wrap my head around it and fix it for 2 days straight. I’m not computer savvy by any means so I’ve just been running scan after scan.

The worst part is that I can’t get anything to move to the virus chest. My options end up being either doing nothing or deleting what gets found. Avast has detected well over 100 corrupted files since the notifications began and I won’t be surprised to find more. I’ve run two boot-time scans, two quick scans, a full system scan and numerous scans of the C:\ folder. I can’t figure any of this out and I don’t know what to do.

Somebody please help!

[Edit] Avast has detected over 500 infections since this first started happening. I’ve just been deleting everything since I can’t seem to get anything into the virus chest. It keeps displaying an error saying the virus chest server is down.

@YoHodge you need to start your own topic, helping multiple users in the same topic will only be chaos
corrupted file(s) are just a scan error report and not detection…so avast will take no action

@Kobalt

follow this guide and attach (not copy and paste) logs from malwarebytes / OTL / aswMBR

@Pondus

Thanks for replying, but I have already removed it. :slight_smile:
I found someone over at Major Geeks that had the exact same problem,
so I just followed their posts till I figured out how to get rid of it.

ok…but if you attach the logs requested, Essexboy can see if you got it all…
and he usually find some leftovers. :wink:

I’m going to have to double post this because the files are to big.

Here is the malwarebytes and aswMBR logs.

And the OTL log.

I already looked them over, but I want to make sure I haven’t missed anything. :slight_smile:

One more to kill, how is it now any more alerts ?

Here is the log from OTL

Ok if you could run as normal for the next day, and if all is good I will remove my tools and tidy up

Alright, everything seems to be running normally again. My latest scans with avast and Malwarebytes have both come back clean.

Subject to no further problems :slight_smile:

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean :thumbsup:
