When booting windows, my PC gets stuck on the “Starting Windows” screen and stays in that position. I can’t boot into safe mode as the PC gets stuck on the “aswrvrt.sys” driver and also stays in that position. I’ve tried using system restore points through the Windows 7 disk to fix the issue but it still gets stuck on the “Starting Windows” after rebooting. I’m guessing the issue is due to me shutting the computer down during the “Starting Windows” screen after avast or another program updated and required a reboot (not sure which one but I’m 70% sure it was avast). Is there any fix such as removing avast through cmd or removing the “aswrvrt.sys” driver? The PC is running Windows 7 Ultimate x64. Any help would be appreciated.
Download the following three programmes to your desktop :
For 64bit systems
2. Windows 7 64bit RC

It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please copy and paste it to your reply.
I can’t seem to download the Windows 7 64bit RC file that you provided. I get a blank page when I open it on firefox and I get greeted with a page that says “This domain has just been registered” when I open it on internet explorer.
Also, rufus doesn’t seem to recognise my USB stick.
Here’s the log:
Found device ‘HP v120w USB Device’
Could not open ‘\?\usbstor#disk&ven_hp&prod_v120w&rev_0.00#9ef52eb5ce2678&0#{53f56307-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b}’: [0x00000005] Access is denied.
A device was eliminated because it didn’t report itself as a non fixed USB disk

Would it be possible for me to just copy FRST64 to my USB and access Command Prompt through my Windows 7 disk?
Yes if you have the windows 7 disc certainly (not many people have one )
Here’s the log.
Also, thanks for the quick replies.
There is no malware present on the system. I can disable Avast from starting but that may not resolve the problem if it was caused by windows updates
Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST as before and press Fix
On completion try a reboot to normal windows
Still stuck on the Starting Windows screen sadly.
Here’s the fixlog if it’s any help.
Could you now try the repair startup option
If that fails then from the command prompt run a chkdsk /r
Still no luck.
Here’s the response from typing chkdsk /r:
“The type of file system is NTFS.
Cannot lock current drive.
Windows cannot run disk checking on this volume because it is write protected.”
I am afraid you are looking at a reinstall. Do you have a backup image ? If not I can provide a programme that will enable you to backup your data
I need to back up my data so the program you mentioned would be useful.
Thanks for the help.
Download Peazip to the desktop
Run and install the programme
As it installs this page will show, deselect the AVG ticks
Press decline and it will then install cleanly

Download the following files to the desktop … Right click the links and select save as…then select desktop
Right click OTLPE on your desktop and select …Open as archive

Select the ISO file on the desktop via the ISO icon.
Press Start

Once the USB has burnt then boot to the reatogo desktop using the USB
A windows xp type desktop will be presented and then you can copy any data you require to a USB/CD
Would it be possible for me to copy everything but the windows folder (excluding the drivers) and have my programs working when I copy it back?
No, this is due to the registry being re written. Save all your licence files as you will need them
Before I reinstalled windows, I tried to boot into safe mode and it worked.
Is there any way to fix windows from their?
Could you run FRST from safe mode please as it will grab a bit more data
Oh wow!
I forgot to press the f8 key and my computer booted up normally!
I’m hesitant to reboot it to reboot it now to see if it is completely fixed.
Is there any thing I should do incase?
Looks like chkdsk may have worked
Run FRST from normal mode
At some stage you will need to try a reboot. I think it will be OK now
Here are the logs from running FRST in windows
Looks good, you will need to repair Avast now
