an't boot please help

Hi,
My computer just shut down. I restarted and got the following error message: NTLDR is missing
Press ctr=alt=del to restart.
I have avast 4.5.
Thanks,
Glenn

This is bad… That file is absolutely necessary for booting. Some trouble on your disk messed it…

Overinstallation can solve the problem and you won’t lose your programs, settings, data, files, etc.
Just choose ‘Repair’ installation of Windows and install ‘over’ the old installation.

Hi,
I tried that and when I got to the screen where I was given 4 choices, I chose option 1 (microsoft windows 2000 professional setup), Then it said microsoft 2000 professional setup. Then it said running wprosect.dat. Then it said no-emulation type image (raw).
00000800000000001
press any key to boot from cd
Then it brought me back to the original message, the ntldr is missing.
Press control alternate delete to start.

Thank you for your help,
Glenn
PS my reason for posting here is that I read on another forum that this could be the result of a virus

This thread should be in the off-topic section.

Then it said no-emulation type image (raw).
Was/is it a dymanic or a static partition the OS was/is on?
