Anti Theft app

Hi, first of all, I really like your application so congratulation for making this app a very good one and FREE.

I own samsung galaxy s3 (not root).

I have a few questions:

  1. After I activate the anti theft then I hold down menu button and go to task manager>downloaded>if I find the “Anti-Theft disguises itself using a customized application name”> select uninstall>Ok to uninstall>it will shows “cannot uninstall: this package is an active device administrator” and press ‘manage device admin’ and untick the customise application name then I can continue uninstall the anti theft customized application name.
  • Is this normal?
  • If I don’t have a lot of application installed, isn’t that easier for the theft/the person who find the phone just uninstall it?
If the person knows about the phone/android/avast then it will be easily noticeable by looking at the ‘android’ icon.
  • can we modify the icon for future release? not that it help if the person uninstall one by one.
i know it is prevent a bit further than nothing.
  • can this activate the password so it is not easily just press manage device admin and then untick it.
  1. In the system state, how do I activate continous tracking and sms/call forwarding? both of them say not active.

thank you and waiting for your reply.

Yes. avast was installed as a device admin with a disguised name. You have to manually disable it as admin to uninistall it.

The thieve must have your PIN (phone security) and simultaneously your avast! PIN to uninstall it.

You can disable the icon on the version 2 (now in beta phase) or change it for a gray one.

Which “system state” are you referring to?

A: I have a pin on my simcard. I use the pattern to lock the phone, is this the one that you refer too?
IF there is no lock pattern or phone PIN (worst scenario), the thieve is able to go to ‘task manager’>uninstall>manage device administrator and untick it, am I right?
because it doesn’t ask for Avast! PIN password though.
If it is like that, can I request to setup Avast! Pin password in ver 2 if it is not too late?

A: Thank you for this update. Can we add our own icon?

A: go to Anti Theft>system state (at the bottom)>system state> there are continuous tracking and sms/call forwarding both NOT ACTIVE.
How to enable these two? I already read from your user guide but I didn’t find it unless I missed something.

Thanks for your assistance.

Yes, pattern or pin to unlock.

Right, but if you let the front door open, how can you complain?

Maybe I’m messing things here as my computer is rooted. Sorry.
I’m not with my mobile now and I can’t remember to answer all your other questions right now.

A: Yes, I know but some people like to left the door open :o
just a suggestion

A: No problem just take your time. Looking forward to your reply

Did you read the manual already? If not, please do so: http://files.avast.com/files/documentation/mobile-security-user-guide-en.pdf. Continuous tracking is feature, which can be called by SMS command or by portal.
A: Thank you for this update. Can we add our own icon?
No, I hardly doubt that any user will be able to draw high quality three layer resource icon on Photoshop :-)

Okay just to double check.
So I need to use the sms command and it will be active and NOT activated first and then use sms command.

GOT IT, tested and it is working. Very good BUT in term of LOCATE command, the accuracy sometimes misleading. One time it is away by 1-2km. Other times within 40m.
The other issue is if the phone is lock, looks like I cannot received the location. Got error “the phone’s coordinates could not be resolved by both GPS and cell id/ location area code.
The reason is that either the give GPS data is invalid or …”
Is this normal?

Another question, is this SMS send that I received in term of the GPS location paid by the lost phone or Avast?

Thanks.

The accuracy depends on used technology, f.e. location grabbed by GSM is about meters, by Wifi should be hundred of meters. Depends on how you are connected to other sites. On some devices where in anti theft settings is GPS item accessible this could happen, just please untick the GPS settings and try to lock the device. All SMS you sent or received are paid by you, Avast! mobile security is free product, so we can not afford to pay your SMS traffic. Anyway, with beta release you can use the portal solution, where SMS are not needed at the first place.
