Wow! Now, there’s an idea and if you don’t mind, I would like to borrow it.
Your list is pretty comprehensive, some of which I’ve never heard of before. If I were to guess, all this probably took up a gig and a half to two gigs.
Thank you very much ardvark actually my USB device is a Micro center 2gb and I havent even used a gig yet of it with all of that on there mixed with some cleaning tips in .txt files and the wubi installer for ubuntu (for friends looking to give ubuntu a try) and sure go ahead and borrow the idea its free for anyone to try
If I may ask, what are your impressions of the 8th version Ubuntu? I forgot the animal name for it, I used Breezy Badger (5.10) for a while and played with Ubuntu and Kubuntu 6.06 and felt Ubuntu had a lot of potential.
I’m being brave enough to use the 8.10 Alpha already.
I want to test, learn and enjoy KDE 4 only and I’m using Kubuntu.
It’s very good on my USB external HDD
Hello ardvark the name of the new Ubuntu version is Hardy Heron and my impression of it? it requires a learning curve at first as for any OS but its a really good alternative to windows what I really like about it is that its all free ware and comes preinstalled with all the App’s I want or need.
Nice collection you have there, I would give you some not too large programs and tools to make it just super.
In the free non-resident AV tools I like to have DrWebCureIT on a pendrive, finds things other av-scanners do not,
In the collection Anti-Rootkit you have to add: IceSword - very good, finds more than others, and McAfee RootkitDetective.
In the special tools: Freefixer, a hijackthis kind of program, very good, but only trusted in the hands of those who know what to fix and what not, and Killbox.
I would add a category: Forensics with:
Silent Runners, RunScanner a free startup analyzer (with lots of extra’s and a hijackthis mode), RegMon, tcpview, XRayPC.
JustinXP, since you already are trying another OS, why not also try/ virtualize ReactOS ? (Check it out at http://www.reactos.org/en/index.html ).
As for your Antimalware toolkit (nicely done, by the way ), might you consider allowing some maintenance tools into the arsenal ? Tell us and we’ll gladly recommend some of the basic + advanced maintenace utilities !!
Keep us updated, and good luck !!
**To be honest, I hope you never will need to use your toolkit; as in, I hope that nothing that destructive ever gets into a PC. Course, things happen, and its nice to be prepared. Good to see you are too !!
thank you Polonus and Happy-Dude for the input. Polonus im going to get to work download and added those programs to the toolkit so thanks like I said im always on the look for new programs. and Happy-Dude this toolkit isnt only for my Pc I have “customers” which are neighbors and residents that live in my area that I need it for I like to clean infected computers and fight Malware for fun!
I also have a flash drive ( 4 gig Micro Center ) set up as a tool kit, and have some of the same as Justin’s, then some different ones. ;D
How does the Ausologics Disk Defrag work ? I have tried Defraggler, and wasn’t that impressed with it. I accually run Diskeeper on my own PCs, but i’m asking for others that cant spend the money on them. I’ve heard it said that anything has to be better than windows built in defragger, but really never had problems from it ( that I knew of ) before I changed to DK…
The thing that attracts me to it is the real time operation, more so than the ability to schedule… I don’t leave my computers unattended, so schedulars dont work as well for me. This was probably the biggest seller of DK for me.
I have one PC set up for mostly testing, i’ll give this a try on it.
Justin, I didn’t mean to hijack your thread, just have been looking for a more affordable defragger…
