Antispam active protection blocks gmail folder syncronization in Outlook 2016

Starting on Monday, July 4th it appears that Avast Internet Security started blocking all folder synchronization with both of my gmail accounts using Outlook 2016. If I manually turn off the antispam shield, everything works fine again. It only affects my gmail accounts, all of my microsoft accounts, including exchange and office365 work fine with the antispam shield active.

I notice I have two PCs on my account and are running AVAST 2017 (12.1.2272) and AVAST 2016 (11.2.2262), both have the same issue and both are fixed by disabling the antispam shield.

Any ideas?
