Antispam module crashing

The antispam module is crashing from time to time (to say the truth, almost even boot…).
Maybe it can be reproducible if you set: 1) Windows to autologon and 2) MS Outlook to automatically start.
This happens to me even if I delay 2 minutes after logon to load MS Outlook.

The antispam module is being a nightmare for me… Sometimes I keep it disabled as I receive few spam.
Just want to report if any of the developers what to follow this issue.

Tech, you’re on Win7, right?

Please go to Control Panel → Action Center → Maintenance → View Reliability History, click the date when it happened, and open the incident. What details do you get?

Thanks
Vlk

Well, basically Windows can’t find a solution and only that MS Outlook stop working.
I know it’s the avast antispam plugin as the next time I start Outlook it comes with a message that the avast plugin is crashing Outlook.
I don’t know how to see more details.

What can I do?

Tech - are you sure the crash is caused by the plugin as the behaviour persists after disabling it I suspect there might be other culprits. In any case, does looking into the AppData\Alwil Software\Avast 5\log\asOutExt.log reveal anything interesting? Note that the log file keeps getting overwritten every now and then to prevent unlimited growth

Yes, it’s the plugin. The behavior does not continue after disabling it.

I’ll try an installation from the scratch ::slight_smile:

The avast! Antispam found the error 00000002. Error code: 80070057
(the other are similar)

k.u.r.t., things seems a little better. I’ve got an idea. I was having trouble to install pst backup extension. Then I use an alternate method to install the msi package and it comes with the option to install “for all users” at the “common folders” or something like that, it was two weeks ago.
I’ve opened MS Outlook as an admin. Enable the plugin. Now it seems to be working… Strange uh?

Second boot and everything working… knocking wood…

I celebrate too fast… the toolbar disappeared

Could you please confirm that when this happens you get the “The avast! Antispam found the error 00000002. Error code: 80070057” ???
Also is it possible to post an Outlook screenshot from when this happens? I would like to see what exactly do you expect to see and what exactly do you actually see as the reports differ. Some people claim that their buttons are not there others that they are disabled. I need to break this down a little bit more first.

Cheers.

I’m taking screenshots. Need to boot some times to see if I can reproduce the error.

Well, right now I can’t open Outlook with the plugin…

I can’t see any message inside the log.

I’ve noticed that every time I can load MS Outlook after the plugin crash I get my “visualization panel” removed.
Are these things correlated?

Why does it stay inactive and the toolbar disappear?

Tried to repair avast. Nothing help.
Tried to register the dll. Strange message and failure.
Delete the file. Repair avast. Boot. Open MSOutlook and it crashed.

I’ve uploaded the MS dump files to the ftp server.
Tech_MS_Outlook_Dump_Files.zip
Please, follow this…

I have to disable the plugin… it’s the only way to open MS Outlook…

The plugin does not work!
Then the legitimate email continues to be marked as *** SPAM ***.
I have sent tons of times to the whitelist and nothing…
What is going on? >:( :frowning:
