"Antivirus Live" got threw

Just a minute ago the avast guy said a virus has been detected. don’t worry click abort on my wifes laptop. But Antivirus Live got loaded. That sucker will not let me shut it down, or start taskmanager, Internet Options. I have not tried msconfig. But avast did start. But a warning message did come up saying the program could not be started some file was infected. Avast did start and I scheduled a Boot time, and its running now. she was browseing aquabid.com

this is the rogue: http://www.2-viruses.com/remove-antivirus-live.
I seen this kind of rogue before, I know its a pain to get rid of. Why are who ever allowed to use this kind of software for product slamming?

Why did avast (home) allow this to load? I thought it mite just been running in memory or cache and not commited to HD. So I unpluged the battery, and then the p/s. Well I was wrong. It was still there, after boot.

Does who ever really make money doing this or just like being a pain in the a**.

jepp, or make the computer explode.... ;D

along side avast? avast is not able to stop the kind of ware?
I’ll give it a look, Malwarebytes PRO will stop all rogues

thanks

No single program will give 100% protection, they are always playing catch up to a great extent. That is why a layered defence and or multi-application approach to your security gives the best level of protection.

+1

yea I understand but I read its a type of Trojan, a virus. seems avast should have stop that. and with the technology today, the users of this ransom ware they should be stopped dead in there tracks. I mean if there is people falling for this, and paying. the money has to be going into an account or a business account. a digital trail right to them.

thanks for the input.

I was able to clean antivir with Malwarbytes. I purchased it but did not see a lifetime license.
Are you sure it is still offered? Thanks.

Jerry

Activating the full version unlocks realtime protection, scheduled scanning, and scheduled updating.
For consumers and personal use, it is a one time fee of $24.95.

Part of the problem is that the initial issue is that of simple pop-ups, which in themselves aren’t trojans/malicious, but fake security alerts. It is only when the user visits their site or runs their supposed scan that they are exposed to either a proper infection or fraudulent activity. So up until then it is not possible to check any digital trail as you say, it is far from easy as there are multitudes of different sites and variants springing up all the time.

A major part of your defence is sat at the keyboard.
Rogue, Fake Alerts - If only a common sense plug-in were on sale, as harsh is this sounds people simply aren’t using what they have already.

Q. How can something report your system is infected without being installed.
A. It can’t.
Q. How can a program tell you your infected without having run a scan.
A. It can’t.
Q. How can a scan be run without your permission/approval.
A. I think by now you are getting the idea, it can’t.

Simple really

Until people start to learn this, security applications will always be playing catchup. The reason they use fake alerts is to scare the user (and it clearly works) into taking actions without thinking calmly first.

This slipped through on me last night. Thanks for the links on cleaning it out.
