Antivirus webshield "eats" 6-7 mbit of my connection, why?

Hello

I tested my Avast Internet Security, turning off the shields one by one and found out, that the antivirus webshield eats about 6-8 mbit of my connection.
I get about 123-124 mbit normally, but after turning the webshield off, I get 130-131.

Is there something i can do, to fix this, other than turn the webshield off? Maybe tweaking some settings in Avast?

Thanks in advance.

I just tried some more and found out that “intelligent stream scanning”, under Antivirus webshield main settings, is the one eating some of my speed.
Turning it off helped.

Download speeds also depend on the remote server load and overhead. I only have 8Mbit connection and i often can’t max it because remote servers can’t keep up even though i have plenty of headroom. With your 100+ Mbit connection, i doubt 50% of remote servers can keep up…

What is “intelligent stream scanning”?

I believe it scans the data stream in real time, it doesn’t wait for all of the download/page data to fully arrive before it is scanned.

Thank you, sir!

I doubt that 0.5% of the servers will keep up. The server can handle the throughput with the right NIC but the administrator is not going to give up that much bandwidth unless it is a designed data feed.
