I start using my notebook on a public wifi lately. Can anyone help me with an advice or some steps to stay safe in this type of network? Thank you

Well yes I know this, but for this I have to pay a lot of cash to have it non stop every day.
Then you need to go for a good firewall + avast! Free antivírus.

Well this is a good free advice actually

here is another one… Win7 / 8 already have a good firewall
I’ve been using the avast!8 Free and Windows 8 Pro combination since both became available
and I probably spend more time on the road than most people.
I still have a safe and secure laptop.

I suppose configuring wireless connections to public would be a good start.
Does your laptop comes with a HUGE Siren Alarm Padlock Bob ;D

Whilst my win7 netbook doesn’t get out much these days, I have the network location set to Public network, as I believe it is a stronger network security level. This also saves you forgetting to change the network settings when you are out and using a Public network.

I know that, as David mentioned I setup my network to Public, and I disabled the network sharing permanently for public network. As for blocking all inbound connection including those from allow list, I don’t know if this thing won’t affect my skype and yahoo messenger communications…
Since you are a member of the Comodo forums why not use their firewall? ???
You can tweak some of the settings like stealthing ports and using their “trustconnect” function.
Do a custom install and untick everything on the first screen.
The link is for the stand alone firewall. Cool. 8)
