Hiya, I seem to be a bit of a magnet for malware lately, running spywareblaster, winpatrol, avast, adaware and AOL spyzapper, is there any AOL users using spyzapper? would like to install ms antispyware but not sure if any conflicts have been found with these 2 running together, any advice appreciated…
I really think you need to use a browser other than the default AOHell one. Once you have established your AOHell connection you can fire up your other browser. I think AOHell brings its own level of problems.
Also see my reply to your other Malware Again thread.
Hello again…lol we will have to stop meeting like this… ;D no problem, changing browser I have Firefox on here, I just don’t particularly like it, only just getting to grips with IE, whichever browser I use I would like to try MS Antispy but not sure if it is compatible with the new Aol spyzapper, there must be some Aol members on here…
I would ditch AOHell spyzapper because it doesn’t detect AOHell as spyware ;D there are lots of freeware products up to the mark and probably better.
IE is very vulnerable because it has ActiveX, Browser Helper Objects (BHO’s), these can install stuff without your knowledge or intervention (and with admin privileges almost unlimited access). Not to mention IE is an integral part of the OS, so if it is able to exploit IE it has exploited a part of your OS.
AOL is what I consider a death trap, it’s already annoying receiving those Cd’s by mail. Now their browser is like a big fat hole sitting on your PC. They better optimize their security rather than speed right now. Their offering free McAfee Virus scan and Firewall just like Verizon MSN Premium. I heard that Hotmail change their attachment scanner from McAfee to Trend Micro (Good call).
;D ;D ok ok I give in does either of you know the new version number of firefox and do I have to uninstall the version I have? prepared to give it the benefit of the doubt to see how it goes, still not sure whether to disable spyzapper and try MS Anti :
Nah, just reboot Firefox by closing and re-opening it after you isntall the latest version.
I recommend MS Antispy than any program sponser by AOL.
;D ;D ok one step at a time, I just found FF on pc only had it running for a short while how do I go about updating it? I have no idea at all on this browser…will tackle MS Antispy next… ;D
Okay first you run FireFox>then you go to “Tools”> Next click on “Options”> Go to “Advance”> Then scroll down till you see a nice fat button that says “Check Now”
thats how I like it, plain, simple and straight to the point… ;D ;D
Are you ready for MS AntiSpy? Although you only got less than 90 days to use this software untill it’s garbage in your PC. If you have Spybot and Ad-aware, than you should be fine unless you really want MS AntiSpy.
why only 90 days? thought it was free? have updated FF love it when things go that easy…can’t beat plain language… ;D ;D
MS Antispyware is still a beta version, after it’s expired it’s useless. They said that you have to paid a year subscription for the full version. I ask is why? Bill Gates is already richer than all of us combine, at least share the wealth by giving us MS AntiSpy for free.
Well will give it a try anyway…just fed up of this malware problem…also how do I do a browser check?
EDIT: Thanks for your patience… ;D
Browser check? Well heres the link for the MS Antispyware: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=321CD7A2-6A57-4C57-A8BD-DBF62EDA9671&displaylang=en
Click “Continue” and they’re gonna do these annoying set-ups before you get to the download so that you have Active X enable. Once you got MS Antispyware install you may do a smart scan or a through scan. I recommend do a through scan to make sure you get the spyware and remove it completely.
Wish me luck… ;D
Great something else to worry about now !!! it found 36 items relating to Bearshare which I no longer have and something called U.Save…no idea what that is all in the registry, didn’t know what to do about them, never had time to read the help or information files… :
Ignorance was bliss!!!
In a worse mess now than when I started… :
sorted…deleted all 36 entries…and got back on line…so I must have done something right… ;D
