I have Pro version, installed before 4.1.418 and updated before the trouble appears. I have used avast screen saver before, configure it to use my screensaver and have access to ‘advanced settings’.
Now, step by step:
Control Panel > Video applet > Screen Saver
Click on Configurations
Open the window with the Advanced settings un-checked
If you check that option, the application crashes
You receive the report error posted here
Note, the button Settings marked on green works perfectly.
OK so the app crashes if you click the Configuracoes button?
Well this button does nothing else than executes the screen saver with a specific command line…
What happens if you select a different screen saver? Does it crash as well?
Try e.g. one of the standard Windows screensavers, such as Mystify or Starfield…
If I’m reading it correctly, avast! crashes when the checkbox “Advanced configuration” is checked, not when the “Settings” button is clicked (it works, right?)
So, the crash is somehow related to the display of the additional avast! configuration options (pages)… maybe some kind of problem with the options stored in avast! database?
I disabled avast, deleted ashBase.dll, repair avast installation and update it.
Boot.
I saw the same file recriated (version 4.1.415.0).
Still do now work
Vlk, using the new avast4.mdb file that you send me, sorry, same error under Portuguese language. Both the Control Panel applet and the Enhanced Interface cannot handle the ‘Advanced settings’ of the screen saver module
Igor and Vlk, thanks for debbugging my problem.
I uninstalled, installed version 4.1.357, updated it to 4.1.418, two languages (English and Portuguese).
No troubles… Let’s walk forward 8)
(Btw, Vlk, your avast4.mdb file did not solve the problem)
