Any news about 5.1

If you search on avast in majorgeeks, the free and pro version in returned list still show 5.0.677.

Weird, I’m tempted to do a disk image and install this to see what it is ;D

I am guessing that it is a typo…if you download via avast! then you also get a file that says 5.1.677…

A strange place to get a typo in the file properties though. I was wondering if any of the internal files would also be marked 5.1.677, that is why I’ve been toying with a disc image and install.

Edit: A manual program update reports up to date so it certainly hasn’t filtered to any update servers.

I’m toying with doing disc image myself and go ahead and doing the install, does say 5.1.677 in the File Properties on free av downloaded direct from avast’s site, i agree is a strange place to have a typo, which is probably why all the other download sites are picking it as 5.1.677

This is not the first time Majorgeeks have jumped the gun.
They did it with Firefox 4 Beta 7.
So it would not surprise me if it was genuine.
The plot deepens
We shall see

The build numbers are all you need look at to see there is something wrong with that a program update won’t have the same build number.

There are many websites that seem to offer 5.1 if you perform a google search. Misleading though.

Either a typo or they intentionally did this to build anticipation (seems unlikely but possible). It’s not April Fools Day so that can’t be it. Not St. Patrick’s Day and I don’t see any green beer anyway. It’s almost Christmas though so DavidR may be correct. I dunno!

Kind of a bum deal that it is posted in Wilders before it is posted in this forum. Maybe they are wanting to surprise us with it.

Re: Avast 5.1 final

Guys, this is not the real v5.1.

It’s just the normal build 5.0.677 with the latest virus defs bundled.
The fact that the version info in the installer says 5.1 is a mistake caused by the fact that the systems are now getting ready for the real v5.1…

Of course, once v5.1 is released (either beta or gold) it will be properly announced.

Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks
Vlk

I bet they will release Avast! 5.1 ( BETA maybe ) this Saturday night

Greetz, Red.

Does this mean that everyone will be setting up tents and camping in front of the stores so they can be first in line? lol
You must have the inside scoop on this.

I am very good at breaking things so I will take a shot at that beta (if one is released).

Thanks for the info!

No inside information this time, but just a wild guess. Avast! has released some BETA’s on Saturday nights before

Greetz, Red.

THats odd …i guess somewhere the plan was changed and now it seems it very likely there will be a beta ???
If I remember back when a beta version was not going to appear…Ah can’t keep up with progress i guess :-\

The Cloud Technology will be included in v6.0

everyone is exited for launching 5.1
but the change in security software is a big adjustment to the user and thousand of application that anyone use may have conflict.

to protect my files from corruption, protect from threats, it is enough for me  8)

maybe we do not know we use already 5.1 in the face of 5.0 ;D just joking ;D
