Anyone else

get this popup?

Avast! posted that on Facebook.

https://www.facebook.com/avast

I haven’t seen it on Facebook. When I clicked on the Avast tray icon, clicked last popup that’s what it showed.

I saw it yesturday when I was updating the XP computer in the house but its old news now, known about it for a while.

This seems to part of avast’s relatively recent addition of general security news items to its “library” of popups. No harm done, no action required by the user, and it might even be useful for users who don’t stay current with security news.

It is however not very well received by a lot of people.
Both those complaining here on the forum and those I’ve heard from
during one of my in person Presentations. :frowning:

I got the same popup again this morning. What does SnapChat have to do with Avast?

Avast bought the company.

Thank you.

Hi bob3160,

People feel aversion towards all sort of things to-daythat they cannot distinct between or they cannot distinguish for what it is… If you cannot see a general security alert from a random ad pop up message you could only complain about your interpretation level. Other users complain about all sort of issues, also often as a form of misinterpretation. Few of these complaints are wrought by what I fear is an concerted anti-avast action. You only need a small amount of these insinuators/trolls for others to jump the band wagon. I assume tat is the situation we have at the forums lately with all these negativity spread about the avast! product (bundled installs, bloatware, adware, more false positives than with older versions, genuine detection that irritate some users that want to circumvent detection or question valid detection, because it does not suit their philosophy/stupidity, etc. etc.).

polonus

@polonus,

If this is directed to me I wasn’t complaining about the popup.

Dear -midnight,

Of course this was not directed at you, and to no one personally. It was just a general observation as we discussed these recent developments and I think it is a good thing to ventilate what I think about this also here in the “generals”. We meet so much (sometimes unfair) criticism lately and we came under attack for being fan-boys of some sort or critique-less avast! lovers. We are just volunteer-members of the avast! support forum trying to help other users in some respects with using a still excellent av solution. I here give my contributions scanning websites for particular insecurities and to check them against avast! detection generally in the virus and worms section of these forums. Sometimes I feel sad about the fact-less avast bashing that goes on here. Again I do not mean by you!

polonus

I concur with both MikeBCda and polonus.
It’s just what it is, i.e. a news item, which I think should be greatly appreciated by those who never check any form of security news, especially if one has a SnapChat or any social media account…Kudos to Avast for bringing it to our attention as it also has an underlying subliminal message to be aware of how one uses the myriad of downloads, apps, social sites etc. which are so readily available on the Internet. Research first, download or not to download is then your choice, but don’t do it blindly.

@Bob3160 re: “Avast bought the company”…Are you serious?

DCD

Just chiming in due to the fact that I have not notices/received this pop-up.
If I missed something, apologies/ but is this only with Free Version?
