Anyone experiencing very slow page loads in the Forums

Subject speaks for itself.

I have done a ping and the rates are reasonable but the pages are taking forever to load. Starting this New Topic has taken well over a minute ‘so far,’ The page hasn’t completed loading yet and I’m typing this into the text box and there is zero download activity.

I have pinged other forums, etc. and the avast one is a slightly faster ping, but page loads are either very slow or completely stall. This one has stalled with no activity in two minutes or more. I have just had to refresh to kick start it and now it has completed, lets see how long it takes to post.

Edit: Just over a minute from clicking post to the page being loaded and ‘done.’

No problems here today, David–somewhat less slow than usual, if any difference at all.

Terry

It seems worse when the url is for new posts (avast.com/index.php?topic=29236.msg239929;topicseen#new), etc. they really hang, just opening this one took over 30 seconds and there is nothing much in the topic.

OK, now it’s slow (nearly 40 seconds–url for new posts; otherwise just over 30 seconds). When I first posted, most topics with few posts and no large graphics were loading in 10 - 15 seconds, this one in only 7 seconds; why I usually stray from my computer while pages load.

no problem here at all davidr on my end…pop’s right up when i click on this thread ??? or anything else for that matter…
in fun-could it be your dial-up ;D

Hi DavidR,

Quite normal here on this side of the North Sea. Do a tracert, it must be somewhere in the way you are being routered there.

Well that was the idea of doing the ping but the rates were fine.

Now things have improved somewhat, but for almost 8 hours when I tried the forums it was really slow and almost unworkable.

Hi DavidR,

Yes, and moreover you still have that slow connection, your neck must hurt now from staring to the ceiling all the time, while you type your postings in between.

For me it was unreachable for the half of the day, I couldn’t open even the main site. But now everything is ok

I feel the traffic very easy… but, today, on contrary, it stayed all day long ok and fast

I have not had any noticeable slow down in page loading in recent months. I am also on dial-up. :-\

Every night around 9:00 or so Chicago time the forum dies for about half an hour. Other than that its been fine.

Seems like things are back to normal now, whatever normal is for dial-up is, marginally quicker than watching paint dry and a little more exciting than looking at the ceiling polonus ;D

I can always watch the Moorhens feeding their 5 chicks between page loads, if it gets bad. Hopefully they won’t kill this brood of chicks, I believe the female killed all 8 chicks of the last brood when they were about 6-8 weeks old.

Every once in a while I’ll notice a slow down, sometimes a complete stall. I thought maybe it was for maintenance.

Please note this text at the footer:
Page created in 0.143 seconds with 16 queries.

If it’s over, say, 1 second, something is wrong.

This server does many tasks. The slowdowns may be caused by our internal server synchronization task which takes quite a lot of cpu, because it always verifies all the files (few gigs of them) for integrity (we want to be sure we’re serving you the content without any errors).

I have one ‘spare’ server with much more ram and CPU horsepower and currently I’m planning on doing the upgrade and migration.

Hm, i never had any problems with it and i’m quiet regular guest here. Using OpenDNS instead my ISP’s own DNS. If it makes any difference…

also as i have said no problem here on this forum at all and also use OpenDNS http://www.opendns.com/ and am definitely “not” a quiet guest here ;D

Whilst things are running fine at present, I’m sure the server update would be very useful. Is there any reason why (for me anyway) that the pages that seem to have the greatest issues are those URL where the topicseen#new is in them ?

I have also disable the email notify on replies, etc. as when I click on the link to the topic the page loading also hangs. I have periodically tested (by re-enabling) this over the last month or so with the same problem. One of the first things I noticed was the Edit/Modify in place icon went missing, followed by the issue with loading pages from the notify emails. Recently the edit in place icon is back (I really appreciate this function). I re-enabled the notify emails but they are still the same.
