Anyone noticed problems with the new Firefox 3.5.7 update

The topic pretty much says it, I have noticed some issues that I don’t know if they are as a result of the latest firefox update.

  1. When an add-on update occurs, after installing and clicking the restart firefox, the window closes but firefox hangs around in task manager eating CUP at about 50%. So the update doesn’t finalise and the new window doesn’t open to complete the process.

I have to end the firefox process in Task Manager and manually start firefox, at which time, add-on compatibility takes place and firefox opens.

  1. I have also noticed that mouse clicks on tabs and buttons don’t always take immediate effect or don’t click at all. Resulting in a flitting around tabs, etc. to seeming get things back working as expected.

Hi DavidR,

A new stability update has just been released: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Releases/Firefox_3.5.7
some report that this was more working as an instability update especially in SafeMode and with particular add-ons running, wait for the next one…

polonus

Did not have anyissues with my Minefield…

polonus

You will notice from the title that is the version I’m using and generally I don’t use it in firefox safe mode, but under DropMyRights ;D

Yes, it certainly doesn’t seem like any stability update I’ve ever had :stuck_out_tongue:

Hopefully that stability update for the original stability update won’t be long in appearing.

Hi DavidR,

I see in the error console the following XPCOM components not being loaded inside the components mfolder: tp-cmdline.js, nsProgramDialog.js, test, dynamic.dll, MyService.dll, xpconsample.dll, nsSample.js, httpd.js, reftest-cmdline.js and test-crashes,

Damian

all I noticed is it seems slower launching.

This is all that is in my error console:

[Exception... "'NoScript aborted redirection to http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com /pagead/show_ads.js' when calling method: [nsIChannelEventSink::onChannelRedirect]" nsresult: "0x8057001e (NS_ERROR_XPC_JS_TH REW_STRING)" location: "" data: no]
Expected ':' but found 'left'. Declaration dropped.

[Exception... "'NoScript aborted redirection to http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js' when calling method:
   [nsIChannelEventSink::onChannelRedirect]"  nsresult: "0x8057001e (NS_ERROR_XPC_JS_TH REW_STRING)"  location: "<unknown>"  data:      no]</blockquote>

This was the last add-on update of NoScript, but the same happened on an earlier update, but no data in the error console.

Hi DavidR,

Some experienced problems, some like I did not, http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/forums/index.cfm?action=showthread&threadid=229597&forumid=16

I read that they were staggering the updates to keep the server load down, migration problems to their new Phoenix server location, or were the problems in their Amsterdam location? Then you with your dial-up connection probably have been a victim there of the fluctuation and staggering, I assume, but this is speculation on my part, an uninstall and reinstall would correct this of-course,

The thing is that even though the error console entries, the NoScript update to version 1.9.9.35 from version 1.9.9.30 completed successfully.

DavidR,

I updated to Firefox 3.5.7 last night on WinXP Pro SP3, and have had no issues with 6 Windows user accounts and profiles. It could be an extension that has a glitch. Below is a list from my most used Firefox profile.

Application: Firefox 3.5.7 (20091221164558)

Thus far, I’ve seen no conflict with this combination. The extensions are the latest released version from AMO update site.

Thanks Gopher John,

I have many of those and then some, all are up to date and I normally check that regularly, especially before I do a program update.

It isn’t something that is frequent or a show stopper, so I can wait it out.

The 50% thing happens to me sometimes when I close firefox, not particularly after updating add-on. But I don’t have to end it from taskman, it ends itself after a few secs.

Thanks
nmb

I’ve never had that happen before with firefox, only after this update. Believe me I waited a long time before hitting the End Process in Task Manager, it wasn’t about to stop on its own as the CPU was cycling around 49 - 51%.

I too am experiencing the problem after the update. It does take 50% of the cpu, but it ends on it self after a few secs… as I already mentioned. What do you think the problem ‘might’ be?

Thanks
nmb

David,

I have that issue since Firefox 3.5.0 on my Vista - and yet have no solution at all :frowning:

But like nmb, I must force to quite firefox.exe from task manager - what a pain. Thats why I only firefox when necessary, unless I use Opera.

Hello Cahya,

you got me wrong. I will not force quit from taskman, instead FF takes a few extra seconds to shutdown completely. I only have to wait for a few secs…

Thanks
nmb

Hi nmb,

So we are here not only the ones who have the same problems

Regards,
Cahya.

No problem here, David. Does the problem go away in Firefox -safe-mode? If it goes away in safe mode, then it’s probably caused by one of your extensions. Maybe the extensions cache has become corrupted.
Corrupt extension files

I am using minefield and I am enjoying it.

The addons that I use are

Noscript
Adblock plus
Facebook dislike

I don’t really need any other add on

@Polonus

I would be grateful if you can find me the release notes

I haven’t had the problem today, sods law, but no add-on updates today.

All my add-ons appear to be working correctly, I don’t particularly like using safe mode as it doesn’t really find the problem, if you have 30 add-ons it wouldn’t find if this was a conflict with a single one.

Also as polonus mentioned, some people are finding safe mode even less stable.

I will take a look at that corrupt extension page, thanks.

Well Sods Law at work again. Shortly after this post there was an update for adblock plus, so I lay in wait ready for the little sod ready to strike when I clicked restart firefox.

It was as good as gold, firefox closed immediately, the Task Manager entry closed in a few seconds as normal and the new firefox window opened. So its fingers crossed and monitor the future updates and click functions.
