AOL Browser not working with AVAST

I need help.

I put a HD in a Dell computer for my Aunt and loaded her AOL 9.0 version on her computer. I got online and sent an email and then realized that I had not put a AV on her machine. I got offline and then installed Avast. I scanned her computer and no virus.

I then loaded that computer (which was here for a month) and took it to her.

I thought all was good until I got a chance to call her and check. I found out that AOL Browser will not work. She called AOL and they had her check and do some things. They told her to call Dell. They also said something about a Firewall causing this problem. She can get her emails and I believe send emails.

She does not know much about computers and really needs help. I need help too as AOL and Avast are new to me. (I have put AVAST on my machine and I like it).

I tried to have her remove AVAST and put back Norton but when she goes to ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS she gets a message Program Error MSHPA.EXE. She also got this message when talking to AOL and they told her to call DELL.

Could you guys give me any clues to what to do to fix this problem? She is over an hour away and I just want to have information before I drive up there and cannot get online to get help.

Her OS is XP.
Thank you soooo much, Kimmie!!!

We don’t get AOL down here at the bottom of Africa, so I don’t know how it works. :-\

What I can suggest is that you try to get your Aunt to use another browser such as Firefox. That may get her going again.

If you did put a firewall on her computer, make sure it lets all components of avast have access to the internet, specifically ‘ashWebSv.exe’.

Welcome to the forums, kimmie!!! ;D

We tried IE. Should I download another browser to try.

I believe the AVAST is being considered as a firewall by AOL.

I don’t like AOL.

Thank you Kim

Can’t really help you with the settings, been using AOL for about a year and a half, with the free McAfee Firewall they give and Avast with no problems…

You could try Firefox I like it , but there again I am easy to please

I will try to download the browser you mentioned. My computer is so slow…

Do you have any idea why the add/remove program button will not work? I do not have XP I have 98se and never had that happen to me. The error is MSHPa.EXE . I have searched for that error on google and other places and have not come up with anything.

If you know where to direct my question that would be great also…

Thank you Kimmie!!!

My Aunt learned how to print the screen and she emailed the error to me. I am looking at that site now. Thank you
