can I use avast4 with aol?
If you mean the mail, then avast does not check AOL mail.
Steve, if I’m not wrong, avast! supports the following Internet Mail Clients: MS Outlook (including Outlook 2003), MS Exchange, MS Outlook Express, Eudora, Pegasus Mail, Netscape Mail, Mozilla Mail, IncrediMail and The Bat! 8)
Steve,
Voj is correct. You cannot use Avast with AOL email. The reason is this.
Avast email protection depends on the POP3 and SMTP protocols.
AOL does not use them and thus, Avast cannot monitor email from AOL.
However, you can use Avast just dandy as an anti-virus and install a separate email av.
You can contact me, or Technical for suggestions on separate email AVs.
Good luck and thanks for stopping by.

Steve,
You can try some of these programs if you wish. Although they are not truly “antivirus”, they do offer some protection.
Are you aware that AOL has its’ own anti-spam and anti-virus software for users?
Anyway:
e-Trust Mail Watcher and e-trust Content Inspector from www.cai.com
(freeware)
Mailcontrol (email firewall…nifty little program) from www.internals.com
PureMail (works with Windows9x/NT/ME) from http://travel.to/louieorbeta
*This program has proven to be 100% immune to all email based viruses
I have some other sources around somewhere which I will add when I find them.
techie
Steve, just my opinions into techie’s suggestions:
I usually get ‘lost’ in the ‘Computer Associates’ site, I don’t know how to get the applications (www. cai.com)
Take care: as techie said, it works like a firewall and not an antivirus.
Sorry, the majority of the time I work with XP…
If it helps in anyway, you can see other links to e-mail applications here into two sections e-mail Applications & Tools and e-mail Tests.
Sorry, the majority of the time I work with XP...and I mostly work with the Mac OS. Anyway how is it immune to all email borne viruses?
Steve,
This might help you:
etrust Mail Watcher and etrust Content Inspection PE can be found at webattack.com. Use the link below and scroll down the list to find both downloads.
http://www.webattack.com/freeware/security/fwvirus.html
Technical is correct. CAI makes it difficult to navigate the site. (Probably so no one finds the freeware. ;D)
techie
Techie, all freeware that I can find is here ;D ;D (joke!)
techie,
what exactly is the difference between eTrust Mail Watcher and eTrust Content Inspection PE ?
I think that they are so much alike : :
Is using the eTrust Content Inspection PE alone enough ? or do I have to install them both? : :
techie,
are you there? :
