is greyed out. I done a repair yesterday but it didn’t help.
What happens when you do a web search (Google or Yahoo)?
Is the AOS present beside the links in the search results?

Seen the same behavior but on some sites it works, on some it doesn’t.
On search engines it works as it should.
Again, what happens in a page of web search results?
If a repair didn’t do the trick, the next logical thing to try is a clean install.

I would say that the next logical step would be to wait and see if it isn’t a back end server issue. Personally I gave up on the AOS plug-in some time ago I don’t think it brings much to the party over and above the web shield.

DavidR,
You may be quite right about that, as AOS is green and shows blocks on some sites, grey and 0 blocks on yet others, and greyed out completely on the rest. Performance is not consistent and, as you pointed out, depends on the back-end servers and networking to perform properly.
- Doubt all web sites have been rated or graded by avast and that fact alone would reflect on the current visual condition depending on what site you were currently visiting.
- Data pertaining to the specific website may not be available due to networking issues between the back-end server and the avast user or client.
