App Locking disables itself

I have installed Avast Mobile Security on a new phone and activated App Locking. However, after the phone is inactive for several minutes or so, app locking seems to disable itself. On the notifications drawer it shows “App locking disabled” and prompts me to go in and re-enable it. This happens several times a day. I’ve ensured the app has device usage permissions but that doesn’t seem to have made a difference.

Any thoughts?

Hi SecurCM,

on some devices (Huawei, Lenovo, Asus, Xperia) we’ve seen that they kill apps in a way that they may lose some of their permissions. In such case, AppLocking will get disabled. If you have such device, please put AMS into a whitelist of some sort so it doesn’t get killed.

Here’s a guide how to do that (it’s a different permission, but might work the same) https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB66#idt_308

I am having this exact same issue on my new phone. I got the Pixel XL and ever since I installed avast I see the same notification on the lock screen multiple times daily. I have to give permission to allow app locking again. I have used app locking for the past 2 years or so across multiple devices and this is the 1st time I’ve ever run across this issue. this is also the 1st and only device I’ve used avast on that is running android 7.1, maybe it’s something w/ the new version of android? does anybody have any solutions to this issue?
