App upgrade stopped Full Virus scan working.

About a week ago, avast! prompted for an Update - that done, Full Virus Scan now reports back with its big, green Tick in a second or two. That used to take c.20 minutes, so I presume the Scan is broken - help, please.

Repair Avast:

  1. Avast GUI → Settings → Troubleshooting
  2. Click on ‘REPAIR APP’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

I too had this problem last Friday. I tried the repair twice with no success and did a full uninstall and reinstall and the Full Virus scan worked. Since then the scans of individual files/ folders has worked perfectly.
Today I went to do my weekly Full Virus scan and it didn’t work. I am currently doing a scan of my local hard drive as an alternative so not happy at all.

I am now running a Full Virus scan following the work around used by Kick as posted on the pinned thread NEW Version:19.5 …

I may try the Repair but aren’t optimistic as to me there is something amiss considering I have done a reinstall only last Friday.

If Repair doesn’t fix the problem, try the following:

Me again – I should first explain that I’m new to Forums and some of the jargon went right by me but I had already tried Asyn’s repair suggestion unsuccessfully. It didn’t occur to me to attempt conrad1961’s method but that too seems to have failed him – it seems to me that this an issue for avast! but I’m on their free version – I tried sending a Message to Support but so far have had no response.

Unfortunately, there’s no additional support (Email/Chat/Phone) for Avast Free.

For the free version, support is here on the forum or via the fact section on the Avast website. https://support.avast.com/en-ww

mikestaite - I have been able to run the Full Virus scan.

Run the scan as normal - when it fails click on the green “Done” and run the scan again and it should work.

I had the same problem, Full scan wouldn’t work. Tried repairing, reinstalling, troubleshooting, etc. Nothing worked. I was amazed to find that pressing the green Done button after the first failure did work. Thanks for posting that workaround.

Surely this is a problem that Avast has to find a solution for.

I’ve reported this to Avast.

Hello everybody. Thank you for your reports. We successfully induced the problem and it is ready to be fixed now. Have a nice day, Petr

conrad1961’s [“done”] work-around was successful - thank you and I see that avast!'ve also been notified, great.

This error has re-occurred today for me - there was a win10 update very recently. Have used the work around for the time being but not happy after it was seemingly fixed.

It has been 10 days since petr.kolacek posted that a fix was ready to be deployed. Have you tried to do a clean install which would include the fix? (again)

Best to use the full offline installer and remain connected to the internet when installing so the fix can be installed correctly and right away. Reboot.
