Apparent infection disables Avast and more

yesterday several things happened all at once

Avast was disabled and "fix" button was ignored, several tries
Windows defender (or something labeled as such) appeared and it can be turned off
an Icon appeared pinned on the start menu for Google chrome (is it really) that when unpinned, repins itself within seconds

Several attempts at corrections and restarts did not correct the changes to my system
A system restore to 4 days earlier did not correct the problem
A “repair” of avast from Programs and features seemed to revive avast until the mandatory restart of the computer - back to situation
I can’t find my avast emergency disk

Hello,

I’m having the same exact issue as William above. Will follow the instructions in Rednose’s post and report back.

Log files are attached below.

It may or may not be related, but I’ve also been experiencing an issue with DoSvc throttling my internet bandwidth downloading large amounts of data from a Microsoft server, but no activity is coming up on Windows Update to indicate it’s downloading updates. This is on an HP laptop.

Thanks!

And in the new thread explain what KMS is doing on your system as well.

Hi guys,

Sorry about that.

I think I may have actually solved the issue. To William, the OP: Have you recently installed any Google applications to your PC? In my case, I had recently installed Google Drive and the issue started happening after that. I think there may have been a glitch with the Google Installer. It also installed an updated version of Google Earth, but I went into Control Panel and uninstalled both Google Earth and Google Drive, and so far when I boot my machine, Avast is running fine and I haven’t seen the Chrome icon forcibly pin itself to my taskbar.

Yet.

If the issue comes back up, I’ll post my own thread, but I’m sharing my potential solution here in case it helps the original poster.

Cheers!
