.: Mac :. will be heartbroken. ;D ;D ;D But no doubt he will continue to defend & hype Apple!
With as much effort he puts into defending Apples, they must be much worse than I thought. :
Windows users are much more open minded.
As I’ve said for a long time, this is the price of fame.
Time to start buttoning down the hatches before the bad guys get in.
Those of us who use Windows have been doing that for a long time.
Welcome aboard Apple. ;D ;D
The only Mac users who need to install an AV are those dumb enough not to spot a fake codec; and the AV is not going to protect them because the fake codec writers are always three steps ahead of the AV companies.
AV’s on PC’s are pretty much a waste of time too, with AV’s only detecting <40% of the really bad malware.
You do know you are on an antivirus forum, right?
Well 40% is 40 times better than 0% so not a total waste of time ;D
But all should have a good backup and recovery strategy to recover from disaster, what ever that might be, unfortunately most people don’t.
Frank,
Are you using an AV program on your System ???
: It should be 1%…well, I know I am not adding anything to the thread…
Yes, avast! on Windows and Ubuntu.
No Im not heartbroken. The KB Article (which Steve finally saw and removed) Simply said that they want multiple applications to be used (no one AV App catches everything). The article never said that everyone should install a antivrus program. Apple has had the stance for a while that installing a AV app can be useful to prevent spreading windows viruses. They eve used to offer McAfee Virex for free to users of their .Mac service.
Exactly
EDIT:
Apple spokesman has told why they have removed the article
"We have removed the KnowledgeBase article because it was old and inaccurate," Apple spokesman Bill Evans, told Macworld. "The Mac is designed with built-in technologies that provide protection against malicious software and security threats right out of the box.”

Just an add-on to Mac’s post ^, that I ran across this morning…
False Alarm: Apple Mac OS X Anti-Virus Recommendation Is Old
The Washington Post, the BBC, Cnet, and other outlets are pointing out that Apple is, for the first time ever, "quietly" recommending anti-virus software for Mac OS X. A little research shows that this is completely false.

No conspiracy theories, no "quietly published" technical notes. Just the same old recommendation they have been doing forever.
