Your computer is the center of your digital life. Your TV is the center of your entertainment life. But what if you want to watch movies, TV shows, movie trailers, podcasts, and photos from your computer on your TV? At $299, Apple TV brings iTunes to the big screen.
Now that is what I call a piece of Consumer Electronics worthy of an award at CES under ‘computers and hardware’ not Vista, the irony of which costs about the same price ;D
I’m not convinced. In the tech spec there is this:
* Video formats supported: H.264 and protected H.264 (from iTunes Store): 640 by 480, 30 fps, LC version of Baseline Profile; 320 by 240, 30 fps, Baseline profile up to Level 1.3; 1280 by 720, 24 fps, Progressive Main Profile. MPEG-4: 640 by 480, 30 fps, Simple Profile
Not sure if this confirms if it can actually stream an HD signal or just display a normal resolution on a HD screen.
I would have to assume since it has an HDMI connection it is capable of HD but only the 1080i (interlaced) not the 1080p (progressive), which is a higher quality.
TV compatibility
* Enhanced-definition or high-definition widescreen TVs capable of 1080i 60/50Hz, 720p 60/50Hz, 576p 50Hz (PAL format), or 480p 60Hz
I assume the Video formats supported values are to do with the Component Video and Audio input, but it has lots of other connection options.
Ports and interfaces
* HDMI (video and audio)
* Component video
* Optical audio
* Analog RCA stereo audio
* 10/100BASE-T Ethernet
* USB 2.0 (for service and diagnostics)
* 802.11n wireless networking6
* Built-in IR receiver (works with included Apple Remote)</blockquote>
This will play HD video, hoever apple does not yet sell HD videoin the iTunes store because of bandwidth issues. I think the movies on the itunes store are 720(p/i ?) not 1080(p/i ?)
Pop the lid off an Apple TV, the new wireless streaming media device
from Apple, Inc., and you’ll find that it’s built around an aging
Pentium M-based Intel processor and other yesteryear notebook
technologies, according to AppleInsider.com
Neither Apple nor Intel have said what chip it uses. And they are not shipping so how do they know what it has? keep in mind that that article is at a Apple rumor site and is not official.
