Hi David and many thanks for your swift response. I have deleted the aswAr1.log file and set the log file size limit to 128KB, it was set at 4096KB. The logging level is set at Notice also I have enabled the Report file and checked the ‘overwrite existing’ box.

I opened both files in Word and they both contained the anti-rootkit logging records ie the process line by line and final summary.

I think reducing the file size down to 128KB maybe the answer but I will report back in a day or so and let you know. Thanks once again and best wishes.

I suspect that with the log file sizes set at 4MB that it won’t have any impact as your aswAr1.log was already over that (twice).

I suspect the log limit has doing nothing with some of the logs… including setup one :stuck_out_tongue:

The aswAr1.log file is back and already has a size of 3014KB, it contains the anti-rootkit scans prior to the most recent one which is in the aswAr.log file (59KB). Isn’t it normal procedure for each scan log to be overwritten? It looks very much like my only option is to try a clean install either that or keep deleting the aswAr1.log file on a regular basis.

You may have noticed the discrepancy between the sizes of the two log files and yet they appear to hold the same data apart from the date/time of the scans, I have no idea why that is.

Well as I have said I have never had that file created, so I don’t know what settings that you might have that could be responsible for it. So a clean reinstall would be a good start point as there is no restore defaults setting.

Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall. Ensure that you scroll down and select the avast direct download link for the English version and not Cnet as that is for an on-line installation (not what you want to do). - Direct download for avast Home, English version, http://files.avast.com/iavs4pro/setupeng.exe.

Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here and save it to your HDD.

    1. Now uninstall (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, reboot. If step 1 failed it may be necessary to run this from safe mode, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.

Thanks David for your help and for the reinstall instructions - I had forgotten all about the Avast Uninstall Utility! I am sure (fingers crossed) that a clean reinstall will resolve the issue.
Best wishes.

You’re welcome, good luck.
