Dear all, you can manage the application rules under ‘View Firewall Rules’. I’m having a problem with the Edge browser. I’ve allowed Internet access for Edge, but after using the computer for a while, the rules no longer work and Edge says that ‘your Internet access is blocked’ (ERR_NETWORK_ACCESS_DENIED). If I turn off the firewall, I can use the Internet again and the sites will load. If I delete the application rules and switch OFF and ON the Firewall, Avast will ask me again to allow msedge.exe. I will choose the ‘Allow forever’ option. This will work perfectly for a few days, after which I will have to repeat the process. Why does Avast do that?
thanks for the answers!
I don’t use the Avast Firewall or Edge, but my guess would be that it may be a different executable. MS sees Edge as part of Windows, and Windows gets regular updates. That then may include msedge.exe and if it is not byte for byte identical to the allowed executable, you’ll get asked what to do with this new one.
Another could be that the path is different. I seem to have 5 instances of msedge.exe on my Windows 11 system, which seem to comprise of at least two different file dates and sizes, in 5 different locations. Each will trigger a firewall seperately when trying to connect to the internet. Example: you open a help screen that is hardcoded to use Edge. That might be a different instance from your main browser.
