We are running Win2k with the latest service pack. We use multiple logins to the computer and shut it down every night. When we power it up and log in the first time, applications like word or excel operate in excruciating slow motion. This only started happening after installing Avast. However if we log out and log back in, everything operates normally. It installed fine and full virus scans showed no problems.
Check the Task Manager. Is it showing high CPU load? If it is, take a look at the process list and check out which process is taking the CPU…
Also, don’t you happen to have SoundBlaster Live installed on the machine…? There is a known incompatibility between avast4 and SBLive under Win2K…
