are scans ran automatic

when dose avast 4.8 run it’s scans? do i have to do it manually? is there a way to schedule a scan?

Hi joecass, welcome to the forum.
If you are running Avast Home, scheduled scanning is disabled. Fair enough. The developers have to eat, so there has to be some difference between the Home and the Pro versions.
So one of these differences is scheduled scans. Other AV’s do other things to differentiate between their home and pro versions, such as partly crippling the detection or cleaning ability.
Not so Avast, the detection, Home and Pro, is the same.

I’ve found (perhaps as a result of the good detection, + credit must be given to my other security layers) that scans hardly ever turn up anything anyway, so they become somewhat unimportant.
Just run a manual scan, say, once a week. Or once every two weeks. (NB the scan will stall upon detection of any malware, until answered manually. So periodically check and see how it’s going.)

avast does the job on-access, resident, in background.
Anyway, on version 5, scheduling will be there for the free users.

OK thanks guys when is version 5 coming out

Version 5 is scheduled for January 2010 release and is now in beta.
