are the problems with 5.x and win7 just from upgrades?

Hi all,

I had been using avast 4.x for a while and had no problems. After upgrading to 5.x i suddenly noticed performance issues with my computer. I used the removal tool to uninstall 5.x and whatever was left of 4.x and since i wasn’t able to find a download link (someone has since given it to me) for avast 4.x i decided to go with avg free instead.

I didn’t like AVG though. I had very little control over it and it seemed to be a resource hog as it was always busy doing something with my hard drive. So i uninstalled that.

Just wondering if the problems i had with avast 5.x and windows 7 - are they likely caused by the fact that i did an upgrade? i.e. if i reinstall 5.x now that both 4 and 5 are gone, is it likely to work better? if not i’ll just go back to 4

thanks

You would have been best to follow through and install avast5 version 5.0.418 (effectively a clean install).

Now you have to download avast5 and save it to use later.
Download the avg removal tool and save that for later.
Uninstall avg and reboot.
Run the avg removal tool and reboot.
Install avast5.

  • AVG8.x (or higher) Remover, download tool from here, http://www.avg.com/download-tools there is a 32bit and 64 bit windows version, ensure you use the correct one.

ah ok - good thing i held off and didn’t go ahead and reinstall something after i uninstalled AVG

I’ll download that tool and run it and then try installing avast 5.x again.

thanks for the help

You’re welcome.
