No, it is intended to stop you constantly deleting/changing your posts. It makes it impossible to follow when the change is for something completely different to the original post.
If you have to make a change that is related, so long as it doesn’t completely change direction, fine. But that then makes what people have posted in reply out of context.
Otherwise make a new post if related or make a new topic as you eventually did.
