This is the command-line of avast Professional version.
It’s present in the Trial version too (for 60 days).

home, open search… do a search for ashcmd.exe… 6 instances… which if I had bothered to read #6, clearly states that it only comes in the pro version…

too bad, since the other free scanners mostly have them:

C:\Program Files\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\avcmd.exe

C:\Program Files\a-squared Free\a2cmd.exe

C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG7\avgscan.exe

and of course

McAfee and F-Prot

I’m not sure even if the command line scanner was available in the avast home (free) version how you could batch them all together as I don’t really know if the avast command line scan will operate without having avast installed.

Maybe it works, but it’s not on the EULA. It’s a part of Professional version.

No, ashCmd.exe wouldn’t work without avast! installed - it uses the libraries in avast! installation folder, it uses the registry keys, etc.

Having two (or more) resident scanners installed is not recommended as rather than provide more protection it can cause conflicts that could leave you more vulnerable and possibly lock up your system.

If you buy avast Professional, you can run it with command-line (batch), but, like David said, the other antivirus could conflict. Bitdefender (free) is compatible with avast.

thanks for the info, I will try bitdefender… I have learned (the hard way) more CAN be better if you are careful… and you don’t necessarily need to run them all on-access (that is where the command-line scanner comes in).

I wish I had unlimited funds and I would gladly buy a few AVs but I am on a fixed income (disability) and food and meds come first (according to my wife)
