ashDisp.exe Error I can't fix it.

A few weeks ago I had a hard drive issue and lost some files. Apparently some of those files were for the Avast Home Edition. Everytime I reboot my computer I get the following error message:

ashDisp.exe Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entrypoint_ARConstructListFromString@8 could not be located in the dynamic link library ashTask.dll

I can click OK on it and it goes away but keeps coming back. I’ve tried downloading the program again but it fails to install. I’ve even gone through the Registry trying to delete all files for it but it won’t allow me to delete the Avast files and I’m the Administrator.

I like Avast and would like to continue using it but this is frustrating me to no end. Can anyone help me with this?

I suggest an installation from the scratch:

  1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
  2. Boot.
  3. Download the latest version of Avast Uninstall and use it for complete uninstallation.
  4. Boot.
  5. Install again the latest avast! version.
  6. Boot.
  7. Check and post the results.

Did you have any other antivirus before avast in this computer?

Avast is not in the Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. I have tried the other things you mentioned and no go. The Uninstall says Avast is not installed on the computer and any installation of the program I try fails. I thought I could remove it entirely by using the Registry but the Registry will not let me delete any Avast or Alwil entry. I am the Administrator and don’t understand that at all. I believe I had McAfee before Avast. I am currently using AVG.

avast won’t be managed with remains of AVG and McAfee.

You can run the avast uninstaller booting in Safe Mode.

I will try these and get back with the results. Thank you for your help.
