ashDisp.exe fails to close on windows shutdown

Hi all!

I have a windows 2000 machine, sp4. Every time I shut down or reboot my computer, ashDisp.exe fails to terminate and I get a dialog that says “waiting for a program to end”… and there’s a button that says “End now”. If I end the program now, everything’s fine and my comp shutdown proceeds like it should. It is however an annoyance to do it every time I decide to reboot or close my comp. Only time it doesn’t appear is when I reboot right after I have just turned on my computer. Any suggestions appreciated.

The ashServ.exe-problem has some similiar symptoms, but I get no crash message, and it’s a different file anyway, so I decided to start a new thread on this.

What exact version of Avast do you have?
Is Avast scanning when this happens?
Anything in Avast’s log file or the Windows log file about this?

I have the same problem in xp and just posted a note, before I found this. Mine is just running on the task bar.
