ashEnhcd "an invalid argument was encountered"

Using fully registered Avast 4.8.1335. Recent began receiving “An invalid argument was encountered” messages from ashEnhcd.exe when initiating a scan of local disk. ::slight_smile:

Clearing the message causes another pop-up with the same. Repeats in a short string sometimes, or seemingly indefinitely at others.

A restart of the WinXP Pro system where it is running does not clear the message. We have the latest VDB and program updates.

Hi bayesianlogic!

try to repair your installation of avast! (via add/remove program in the control panel - then choose repair)
if that doesn’t help try to uninstall and reinstall avast!
(don’t forget to restart your PC)

does this help?

If I need to uninstall and reinstall it, I’ll leave it off and buy another product.

A paid-for an fully registered product should never be this quirky.

Worse, I apparently have a scan in progress, so to be able to do this, I’ll need to kill off AVAST using Task Manager.

This all happened because I simply wanted to initiate a one-time special manual scan, albeit a more comprehensive one.

Yes, because it is scanning, all the processes are locked and cannot be terminated.

This means I need to waste an afternoon going into Safe Mode, removing the bloody thing.

Good BYE AVAST!

Did you have any other antivirus before avast?
How did you remove it?
