ashMaiSv.exe fails

I am getting errors in ashMaiSv.exe.

I am running avast! 4, Windows XP SP2, and Zone Alarm 6.1.737.000.

I get errors like:

Faulting application ashMaiSv.exe, version 4.6.739.0, faulting module vlsp.dll, version 1.0.0.1, fault address 0x000079a6.

Any help about what might be causing this error would be appreciated.

What version of avast do you have, the latest is 4.6.744 ?

I’m not sure if this is totally ashMailSv.ex as the faulting module is ‘vlsp.dll’ and I can’t find any ‘vlsp.dll’ file on my system. But I don’t use wireless networking, google seems to point to this ‘V-One Smartpass (Wireless Networking Card Related)’ for Vlsp.dll.

Do you have this card?

Thanks for your quick reply.

I am running Avast! 4.6-744.

And using a Dell Wireless 1450 Dual-band (802.11a/b/g) USB2.0 Adapter.

vlsp.dll is in C:\Windows\system32. Properties says it’s from Venturi Layered Service Provider Shim. I’m not using it, but it got installed with Quicklink Mobile Phonebook software for a cell phone. There is no listing under “Add Remove Programs” for Venturi, so I will have to look into uninstalling it, if that is the issue.

I’m not sure if removing it won’t mess with your wireless network connection/s, not being a wireless network user myself.

It could be that the Dell adapter uses third party firmware/software, could there be an update for the adapter firmware? I wonder if there isn’t something in Dell support?

Sorry I can’t offer anything more constructive my network experience is very limited. All I can suggest that you run the google search on vlsp.dll and see if you can find some relevant to your problem. There are a number of hits that are Trillian related to vlsp.dll, so perhaps they are experiencing similar issues.

Seems like another faulty LSP (vlsp.dll) interferring with avast!. Maybe Lukor would have some advice…?

Maybe he needs more info. If so, you can add the following line to the [MailScanner] section of \data\avast4.ini:
Log=20
Then generate some traffic, simulate the problem (i.e. force the avast mail scanner to time out by sending an email with attachment) and then post here the contents of the file \data\log\aswMaiSv.log

I resovled this problem by removing the Venturi software completely. I had replaced a failed laptop with a desktop, and migrated all the applicaitons. But I don’t really need to be able to connect a desktop via a cell phone. I never saw a conflict on the laptop because I was using Norton. (Boy, am i glad those days are over.) After googling Venturi, and seeing similar problems caused with Oracle and Trillian software, i decided to remove the Venturi application. After the removal process trashed my Start Menu - Programs folder, I’m glad to be done with them.

It has been over 24 hours, and the fault has not occurred, so I am a happy camper. Thanks for the help.

Glad we could help, welcome to the forums and thanks for lettings us know your solution.
