Hi , every so often I get this message come up on my screen The program ashmaisv has registered the executable C:\progra~1\alwils~1\avast4\ashmaisv.exe to run at system startup . Do you wish to allow this change ? Yes \No . What do I do to stop this keep coming up ?
Running win98se .

What is the name of the program which gives you that message ? No information at all… I guess it’s your firewall.
Of course you have to allow it if you want to have antivirus protection active. Otherwise, there is no point in having antivirus program installed.
Cheers !
ashMaiSv.exe is the avast Internet Mail provider and without it no scanning of your email, so yes you should allow it.
Hello , I use startup monitor and also notice the mail server program asking for startup status almost every 4 hours when i have selected “yes” multiple times , any idea on how to have this program to remember , not the startup program but the ashmaisv.exe from asking so many times ? Thanks .
The 4 hours seems to be the time period of automated updates…
avast checks if there is an available connection each 40 seconds. If there isn’t, wait more 40 seconds to check. Checking does not take more than one second and, of course, does not use the Internet band. If there is a connection, check for an update. If there is not any new file to download, wait 4 hours to start checking again. If there is an available update, start it and install it. Again, wait 4 hours to check the next time.
These are the default settings.
But could not be this, I’m just guessing by the period of 4 hours you’ve posted.
The e-mail scanner is used for the Push updates (only in the Professional and Trial versions).
Can you post more info about the startup monitor message? Maybe a screenshot…
