ashOutXt.dll cannot be loaded...

I’ve seen many solutions to this problem, but none helped me. PROBLEM: I used Avast for a month until I decided to uninstall it. I finally had to download Revo uninstaller to actually uninstall avast. Now when I open Outlook, I get the famous warning:

The Add-in “avast!” (C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\ashOutXt.dll) cannot be loaded and has been disabled by Outlook. Please contact the Add-in manufacturer for an update. If no update is available, please uninstall the Add-in.

So, after reading posts here, I removed avast from my registry and still get the warning every time I open Outlook.

Please tell me how to get rid of this issue!

revo is not good for security programs…

Pondus:

Thank you for the solution. It has made my Monday much brighter! ;D

Removing the entry from the registry may not resolve this completely as the call for the avast Outlook Plug-in comes from Outlook itself.

I don’t know what you have found in your search to resolve this, or how effective the avast uninstall utility has been, if not completely resolved - This is a collection of the information I have on the problem.

Make sure the avast plug-in/add-in is not disabled in MS Outlook:
Outlook 2007 > Tools > Trust center > Add-ins > Manage Disabled items.
Outlook 2003 > Help > About > Disabled items
Outlook 2000 > Tools menu > Options > Other > Advanced Options > Add-In Manager.

  • Outlook plugin relates to avast4 so won’t work in avast5 -either deleting the avast4 plug-in (or changing the path to point at the avast5 folder may work). Sometimes the Extend.dat file of Outlook, etc. can get messed up, see this topic to see how this problem was resolved, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=56625.0
  • This particular post in that topic from one of the Alwil team, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=56625.msg494023#msg494023.
  • Also see this post if the above doesn’t resolve it http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=59527.msg501954#msg501954, registry change info.
  • Please find attached the file that will carry out what I recommended for you. Just save it to your computer, rename it so that it has .reg extension rather than .txt and double click it. As many of you pointed out, the extend.dat file often gets corrupted or out of sync with the registry. To resolve this issue you need to turn off outlook (ensure it is not running in task manager and kill it if necessary). Once you have outlook out of your way just run the following command:

del “%userprofile%\local settings\application data\microsoft\outlook\extend.dat”

Note this will only delete the file for the current user, so if there are other users sharing the same computer they will need to run the same command. Outlook will recreate the extend.dat file from the registry next time it starts.

Of course this is related to getting Outlook and avast working, but the same areas should be able to remove the plug-in reference from within Outlook.
