ashserve.exe error

I have a question here every once in a while I get an error during shutdown that says something about it not being able to be read and to that the application will be terminated once I click the ok button it goes on ahead and shuts down but won’t shut down until I do that is there any reason for this? and is there any way to correct it?

We will need a little more than “I get an error during shutdown that says something about it not being able to be read.”
Read what ? But taking an educated guess here.
Have you been tweaking avast and set it up to check removable drives, etc. on exit ?

I don’t remember the error code exactly nor can I take a screenshot of it. the only thing I have done with avast is to uncheck the test memory during startup :stuck_out_tongue:

Welcome to the forums, Rage Skywolfe

Next time it happens and before clicking on OK, write down the exact words of the error message. Then, come back to this thread and post what it says.

thanks and I will do that

ok I am back have had the error occur again and it mentions something similar to this "The instruction at 0x7c910e03 referenced at memory 0x00000000 could not be read. any reaso9n for this?

Rage, do you use any other antivirus program? any other security tool? PrevX, ProcessGuard?
Do you use a firewall? Which one?
Which is your operational system? Is it updated?

I have Sygate firewall pro for a firewall and no I don’t have any other anti virus program installed I have had several before this though avg free,nod32, anti vir and this one. I am on windows xp sp1 and just did some updates last night

Hopefully, all the registry entries for those other av programs were removed. If you are comfortable (& very careful) with working in the registry, you might try using Find in regedit to delete remains of these old av programs. Back-up the registry first and Do Not delete anything you are unsure of!

Perhaps a repair of avast will help with error message … at least it will not hurt to try. You have to have an internet connection for this to work.

Start > Settings > Control panel > Add/Remove Programs > Select avast > Change/Remove > scroll down to Repair > click OK and follow directions.

After repair is finished, be sure to do a restart.

I hope this helps you.

the only av program I see in the registry is panda software active scan :S

Can you clean your registry with safe?

can’t get into safe mode the f8 key dosen’t work on this keyboard. :S

You don’t need the Safe Mode to use a Registry Cleaner anyway…
Why aren’t you using SP2?

the reason im not using sp 2 is because it causes problems with my internet connection and messenger basicaly I can’t stay connected at all with it and no pages show up

Seems weird… after all this time, since SP2 release, problems should be solved…
Besides the ashserv.exe error, something else in your system should be weird…
