ashSimpl.exe not resident in memory anymore

Hi. I’m using avast 4 home edition to protect my computer w2000, sp4.

I noticed with hijiack that ashSimpl.exe is not running in memory anymore since two days. I always had it in the list of running programs but right now hijack is telling me that it’s not running anymore.

I can launch it from the alwil directory but it doesn’t compare in the list of running programs.

I’m worried. Is my computer still protected? Have I to un-install and then install again to be sure of everything?

I’ll be grateful for any helping.

It should only be running in memory if you have the Simple User Interface open, e.g. just before you do an on-demand scan.

As far as protection goes, it doesn’t give any protection it is just the GUI executable for the Simple User Interface.

So under normal use it won’t be running. Even so I have just had it up and running and only then does HJT report it as a running process, close the GUI and no report. So it is working correctly.
