ashWebSv.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close

then it closes I am not sure what is going it started a couple of days ago not to sure why can osmeone help please…everything is up todate even my windows xp…I have scanned with a couple different adware programs and including avast so and nothing comes up i did that hijack this thing…

Lets try to get to the bottom of the web shield needing to close first.

What is the exact text of the error message ?
Is there not an additional information link. It normally gives a faulting program/application ‘ashWebSv.exe’ in this case but more importantly the ‘faulting module’ this may not be an avast process but one that is being used by ashWebSv.exe.

I notice from the HJT log that you have spyware doctor, there have recently been a number of problems in avast that are down to a bug in spyware doctor, check the forums for these, but an update has been released to address this bug. So I would first sugest you update spyware doctor and see what else transpires.

See the reason I download spyware doc was becasue the computer started running real funny its brand last month so I am not to sure whats going on now my graphic programs are shutting down on me…all the programs are up to date…i just uninstalled spyware doc and it hasn’t popped up yet…but what else can i do tofigure out why the computer is running so slow

Before you do anything else you should create a folder ‘HJT’ will do for hijackthis (C:\Documents and Settings\nikki\Desktop\hijackthis\HijackThis.exe) if you make any fixes when hijackthis isn’t in a permanent location (not-temp or desktop) of its own there may be no restore available if you make a mistake.

Other than this I can’t see anything obvious, this from an on-line analysis of your log is Neutral, but it isn’t something that must run so it could be fixed or unchecked in the startup section of msconfig…

OK guys I keep getting the same “ASHWEBSV.EXE has encountered a prob…” message, I am somewhat computer literate but I don’t quite understand some of the things this forum talks about using to troubleshoot this problem. I chased down that HJT program just now and am gonna DL it and try to use it to see what is going on.
I am using Firefox as my browser and everything is up to date version wise. As far as more info on the error, Avast pops up a window saying that ashwebsv.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close, and nothing else. After that I get a MS window that wants to inform BillBorg what has happened but I dont see any problems after the program quits. This is very puzzling cuz I don’t use the proxy in my browsing and I checked the connections tab in FF and it is set to direct connection to the internet.
I keep my versions and virus info up to date and my PC seems to be clean so Whats up with this???

Can you check the folder \data\log ?
Are there any files called unpXXXX there (where XXXX is a random number)?
If so, send them to vlk (at) avast.com
They may contain more information about the problem (maybe a link to this thread).
