I keep getting an error window when browsing. It’s really annoying and stops my internet connection from going for a period of roughly 30 secs. I have not found it happening at a certain time or when a certain window is open.
My Specs…
I’m running
-Avast Version 4.7 Home - Build Sep 2007 (4.7.1043)
- P4 3 gihz
- 2 Gig Ram
- Windows XP Pro
- Browser = Firefox.
Attached are the screenshots I have taken of it happening. When it happens… and if i send off a report… what happens to the browser window.
Thanks

Which firewall are you using?

I’m using windows firewall
Is there any files called unpXXXX in \data\log folder? (where XXXX is a random number)
If so, send them to vlk (at) avast.com
They may contain more information about the problem (maybe a link to this thread).

Try clicking the, to see what data this error report contains, ‘click here’ link and post the contents any information here.
There is also likely to be a windows event viewer entry for this can you look for it and post the contents.

I have over 300 of those files you are talking about. it would take rather a long time to send them.

You can send just a couple of them (e.g. the most recent ones).

The problem is related to a dll called InetCntrl0007.dll that is being loaded inside the avast web shield process.
The dll (according to Google) belongs to a program called “Bsafe Online Internet Content Filter”. Are you using such a program? Can you try uinstalling it, and see if it makes any difference?
Thanks

I am running that program. but i cannot uninstall it. I could… but it would make my computer unsafe in other ways. I have children and it stops them accessing material that is not appropriate. Do you have any other suggestions?
Can i ask what a DLL does in general?
Thanks

I understand. However, have you considered using an alternative parental control software?
I’ve heard that e.g. Naomi and K9 are both good (and free) and work OK with avast.
Please see e.g. here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=19574.0
Thanks

Yeah. Both tested and work.
Naomi is for very young children. Just cut off the connection. It’s not being developed anymore.
K9 works and is very flexible.
