In Comodo Firewall pro it says under connections that there are lots of AshWebSv running each with their own bytes in/out but previously they would vanish when scanning ended now they just linger on the screen even when I close the internet connection and Internet Explorer other programs that appear here vanish automatically is this an Avast fault?
You firewall is showing connections and not occurrences of ashWebSv.exe, the place to check for occurrences is the windows Task Manager.
I know I only have one instance running but why when I view the connections tab do they linger rather than vanish after they become redundant (ie the connection has been scanned therefore no need to show it 5 minutes later)
ps what is that program you have in the picture (not task manager the other one)
Sanctuary,
Try to download TcpView from Microsoft and let it display the connections for you. Does these two lists (TcpView and Comodo) match ? Do they show both the same list of connections?
Before I install two things:
Does Tcpview overwrite anything or is it a seperate program
Does it use lots of resources?
No to both questions TCPview is a stand alone product that doesn’t require any installation, download the zip file for it, create a folder for it and extract the files to it.
I believe the problem is one of comodo’s reporting and not one of avast’s ashWebSv.exe, if I look at my Open ports I have one for 12080 TCP for the avast web shield and not multiple entries.
The other image I posted was for a log of activity and as such even if I closed firefox those entries would be there.
It’s a standalone program (does not require even installation).
For sure not…
The traffic is what is being scanned… if there is traffic, there will be a scanning… I can’t see it in other way… the connection needs to be scanned all the time…
