Asked for account to be removed, now email address is posted plain text

I asked for my account to be removed (which it was) but the execution was implemented very poorly. ALL my posts have changed so that my plain text email address is shown where my username should have been.

I’m seeing a huge increase in spam (though gmail catches most). How may I contact an admin to have it changed to something like ‘guest’?
Thank you.

I see no emaill…

I informed the admin, what was your original account name…?

This is a newly made account, in order to get the old one edited. Afterwards this account will be left inactive.

Thank you asyn, I have PM’ed you.

You’re welcome. I’ll forward the info to the admin.

The problem is when the account is deleted so too is the username which subsequently can’t be displayed.

Unless the posts are also removed, which can cause issues; if you were involved in various topic, they would become confused/disjointed. Post that remain are actually shown as Guest account, but that isn’t a user name as such.

Hopefully it can be resolved by manual intervention as Asyn is trying to get done.

EDIT: I have just twigged what is going on (I think). Since the new validation which is linked to the my.avast.com account, the username is the same as your my.avast.com account email address.

The Forum used a display name, not the UserName - so the Name element is removed when the account is deleted. So it looks like a reference is still required and that appears to be the link to the my.avast.com account, your my.avast.com account email address.

Perhaps then the account could be reactivated or the email altered to a generic non-functional email address? Search and replace n the database? I’m assuming the email adrdesses aren’t stored in an encrypted format.

I tried to do this myself by having the password reset, but that just returned me to the forum home page (not logged in). And the forum was unusable until the browser cookies/history were cleared. Hence the new account.

Thanks for looking into this btw. I imagine the avast forum has been a higher target for malicious bots etc since the previous hack in the news and so the increase in spam.

Can you log on to your https://my.avast.com account or was that what you were trying ?

You can add another email to your my.avast.com account and then set it to the default - but I rather doubt that would be able to substitute the current one used as the forum user name. I believe you would need to enter a legit email address albeit one you assign to your spam filter.

Unfortunately I think this is likely to need manual intervention by the Administrator.

Please send me the original email address to chocholous@avast.com. Thanks.

Note: I provided the info and it has been fixed.
