Sorry for the late update. Finally was able to figure out why my USB drive kept saying Read Only. For future troubleshooting, I’ll keep my fix very short. I used TotalCommander, changed and noticed there was a hidden system folder called System Volume Information. I have no doubt that this type of folder exists on basically every device, but I think with the following facts of: it was a Linux Boot disk, it contained both Linux and Windows files (system files), the drive kept giving me false positives of malware, I was constantly using it with my PC and laptop to transfer files between my clean pc and the infected laptop. I have to guess that at least one of those would explain how it was being read incorrectly. After changing every folder and every file under the System Volume Information Folder, I was then able to perform a format on the USB drive. Instead of formatting as NTFS, which is my normal preferred choice, I went with FAT32 (in hopes that maybe it will make some additional setting). Well, it works just fine now. I was able to get grab all the logs from the laptop for the past 2 days. I hope I don’t overwhelm you with too much. I will try to attach each one in the order that they were produced, but I think there is a timestamp in the file name for most, if not in the log file itself.

Just a quick update though on the progress of the laptop. Ever since removing all the infected files, I am no longer able to access vital devices and drivers. The built-in WIFI adapter doesn’t appear to be recognized anymore. It displays it as UNKNOW for the Network Sharing Folder, so I connected cable to the LAN Adapter…but it doesn’t seem to be able to reach my router. I “think” I’m just missing drivers and/or have corrupt drivers from the removal process or from additional malware running that either wasn’t detected or just recently acquired. I can boot the Laptop up and get the login screen, then get to the desktop screen. But I can’t access adapters and also noticed that there are quite a few services that I can’t get started. I noticed this when I was trying to find some logs in the Event Viewer. Event Viewer appears to haven’t been working for quite some time. I can’t get it to start up due to some dependencies not starting up as well. At the moment, I have it sitting on the Windows Repair Screen, as I had hoped maybe it could fix itself, but it came back with some error related to a corrupt or tampered driver or system file. (sorry…I’m very sleepy…I hope this all makes sense). I feel like I’m up against the wall with one option left…being Format/Reinstall OS. If it was my Laptop, I probably would have done that yesterday, but it’s my mom’s and I don’t want to do that until I know there isn’t any additional options left. Yes, there are quite a few System Restore points that are available, but (to me) it seems like that just brings up back to the incredibly infected state again. At least right now, it looks like most of it is gone, but there are many many holes in the software apps and OS system drivers and files. Ok, I think I’m repeating myself. It’s bed time for sure. I sure hope you are able to come up with some alternatives after looking through the logs. If we need to go back a day or two, maybe I can just make sure I exclude a few specific files from being removed. I dunno.
