After doing a restart and logging in as Karen, I get a popup message in the Sys Tray saying: Failed to connect to a windows service - Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service service. This problem prevents standard users from logging on to the system. As an administrative user, you can review the System Event Log for details about why the service didn’t respond.

I put a tick for Automatically Detect Settings, but nothing happens when I click OK. It doesn’t save my changes.

Before we run this repair programme can you confirm that the laptop wireless is turned on

OK lets try a tool that I have used a while back that has now been updated

Go to Petrichorpost and download Complete Internet Repair
Use the highlighted button to get it

Once on the desktop unzip the folder :
Double click the file
Select extract all to desktop
Open that folder
Run CIntRep and the following will appear

Select all elements as shown and press Go
On completion reboot and try the net again

I did a system restore on her laptop and tried to clean up the old installations, folders and registry. Since it’s in a usable state, she requested to leave it as-is. Thank you for your time and effort. You have certainly cleaned my wife’s laptop, my desktop PC and all our removable drives. However, I have one last question. How can I make MCShield to do auto-startup? I’ve added it to registry for both Local Machine and Current User registry entries, as well as adding it to the startup folder. I can’t figure out what I’m missing. The program runs great and I want to continue using it.

The only thing you need to do is tick the start with windows on the MCShield GUI
