Asus laptop being really laggy. Not sure what the cause is.

Hi all,

A couple of days ago I started noticing that my laptop was being extremely laggy. I am absolutely certain it is not my internet. When I try to watch anything on youtube, the video lags to the point where you can see it speed up once in a while to catch up to the audio. There are also times when the video just splits into 3 parts as if I was trying to play a scratched VHS tape or something. The computer lags even when I am on facebook. When I scroll down, the computer freezes and then suddenly jumps down to where I wanted to scroll to. I am not sure what the cause is and a scan with avast doesn’t reveal anything.

I am following the directions in the thread about logs to assist in cleaning malware and will follow up with a post that has all of the logs attached once I am done.

Thanks.

I have attached the logs to this post.

since all the removal experts are in bed now…check back late tomorrow

Hm … proceed with Zoek.

I restarted my computer before running zoek. When I booted up my computer a notepad file opened up. I believe OTL may have created it. I attached it along with zoek’s log here.

The files were already zipped and there was a password on it. I am not sure what the password is so I uploaded as is.

I have also attached the zoek log and combofix log.

Hi,

The files were already zipped and there was a password on it. I am not sure what the password is so I uploaded as is.
I know the password. Zoek has been generated password for archives. ;)

Re-run zoek with this script and attach here fresh zoek log results.

How is your computer running now?

The computer is still very laggy. I am starting to think that maybe something happened with my video card. I used this video to check the lag.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEnsqpThaFg

When it first starts on my screen, itll still split like I’m trying to watch a scatched VHS tape. It will then get better but the video will lag and then you can see it speed up to catch up to the audio. It isn’t my internet because on my macbook that is connected to the same internet, the video works fine.

I have also started to notice that when I restart the computer I see a blue screen that tells me a problem occurred and that the computer shut down to stop it. It states that it might be due to recently installed hardware or software. I have never done any hardware changes to this laptop. It then tells me to restart the computer.

I have attached the new zoek log.

Ok, but problem that you just described isn’t related malware. Or the video driver is not installed/running properly, or some hardware component failing.
It is necessary to test the laptop.

Nope. This is all good. I will remove my tools now.

It is necessary to uninstall ComboFix :

[*] Click Start (or
http://amf.mycity.rs/pg/images/VistaStartButton.png
) then Run.

On Windows7 or Vista you may use Start Search field if Run is not available.

[*] In the line of text type in (Copy) the following:

ComboFix /Uninstall

Note that there is a space between " ComboFix " and " /Uninstall " .

[*] then click OK (or press Enter ).

Wait for the uninstall process is complete.

Please download DelFix by “Xplode” to your Desktop.

Run the tool and check the following boxes below;

[] Remove disinfection tools
[
] Create registry backup
[*] Purge System Restore

Now click on “Run” button. Wait for the programme completes his work.
All the tools we used should be gone.
Tool will create and open an log report (DelFix.txt)
Note: The report will also be stored on C:\DelFix.txt

I don’t need DelFix log report.

I recommended to keep Malwarebytes and to use MCShield if you will.
You may download MCShield from one of the following links:

MyCity - Official download link
Softpedija - Mirror download link

It will prevent infection by computer via USB flash drive, mobile phone or any other memory card.
And not only will prevent infection, but it will immediately clean flash drive, memory card or external HDD.

Thanks for all your effort. I will probably bring it over to best buy and have them test it for me.
