Try a repair of Avast.
start > control panel > add/remove programs > Avast > change/repair

Hi, I have the same problem. Nod32 found a Trojan and I deleted it. Not a wise move because to delete it I had to turn off avast. Now it won’t restart. Think it was the dll file!!! I have tried going to the control panel and repairing it…updating it, and even did a system restore. Nothing works. I deleted Avast and cleaned it with the cleaning tool. Re downloaded it and this error message came up. “This application has failed to start because aswCmnOS.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem” …it didn’t. When I shut down the pc now it comes up with a message saying that the A drive door is open do you still want to continue. Think I have messed something up but don’t know what to do next. If anyone can give me some easy to understand advice I would really appreciate it.
Thankyou

I thank you for your help. Does it matter if the original query was posted so long ago? I have that problem now and it sort of fitted. Anyway, you saw it.
So avast is off my system and will stay off but how do I get the missing aswcmnOS.dll? Do I need it? My guess is that it wouldn’t have been there in the first place if I didn’t. I didn’t know that multi anti virus was wrong and seemingly dangerous to the pc.
Still have that missing dll though.
Any constructive help would be appreciated.

The missing file belongs to Avast, so if you have removed Avast
then you dont need it, and it will be back if you remove NOD32
and reinstall Avast

And yes multi Anti virus or firewall is no no. When necessary, you can always get another opinion by performing an online scan
Recomended to have is MBAM http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Pondus,
Thank you for your help. I'm a novice with all this sort of thing. I do have Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware on my pc so will just do a scan with that every week. That should keep everything going well, hopefully.
I appreciate your time and opinion. :)
