aswCmnOs.dll

tried to update to Avast 4, won’t install saying that aswCmnOs.dll file is missing ,need to reinstall this file to continue the installation…tried to install previous version… same message, what is this file and where can i find it??

I suggest a clean install…

  1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
  2. Boot.
  3. Use Avast Uninstall for complete uninstallation.
  4. Boot.
  5. Install again
  6. Boot.

aswCmnOS.dll is a dll of avast! It’s under avast! folder installation. 68Kb

Hi - sorry to come in on this topic/thread.

I am having exactly the same problem. When my avast home edition updated today I got the message that the file aswcmnos.dll was not found. I have uninstalled avast home by using the control panel and then rebooted, I then uninstalled what was left using the Avast uninstall utility as suggested here and then rebooted.

I then downloaded the programme again from the avast website and when I went to install it the same error message appears saying that the file aswcmnos.dll cannot be located. If I go ahead and install anyway it doesn’t work. I have an error/installation log saved but didn’t want to include it here because it is so long. I am using windows XP pro and do not have any other AV programme (I do have Spyware Doctor and Spybot Search & Destroy - but Avast was working fine with these before).

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks
HughB

I have found a post that has resolved this issue.

For me it was simply a case of manually deleting this file: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\avast4\

After this I was able to go back to the Avast website and download the software again and then re-install it.

Everything is working fine now!

To Alwil team: isn’t anything wrong with the installer?

Post it in parts or, at least, the last 100-200 lines…

File or folder?

I deleted the folder (and therefore it’s contents also).
